Timothy Geigner writes "Also notably absent is any mention of the leading cause of death in children, which is lead poisoning." (meaning shooting deaths)
Possibly the reason it's absent is because it's a conspiracy theory from the professional anti-gun industry. Death by firearm is far from the leading cause of child death. In an attempt to justify their claim, they counted 17-19 year olds as "children" - the prime gang-banger age group. They're still wrong overall, even with trying to cheat on the statistics.
An alternative view might be that the now-smirking Activision marketers and attorneys really know how to get free publicity/advertising. Send one ineffective little takedown, and the whole Internet goes berserk over your unreleased new game.

Copyright is supposed to be a mechanism to encourage creation of new works. How is [any number] of years past death going to encourage a dead author or artist to create more works?
How about "Life or 20 years, whichever comes first", with /maybe/ an optional second 20 years?
The outrage is somewhat misplaced, as people seem to be mixing and matching different parts of the Pres. Memo.
The DNI and Chairman JCoS _are_ still mandatory members of the full National Security Council, with "shall attend" status. This is the full NSC where Bannon is one of five members who are not mandatory attendees, but have an open invitation.
The Principal's Committee, an interagency coordination committee (PC) is the one where the DNI and CJCoS are not required to attend _all_ meetings, but are still "shall attend" for anything in their bailiwick. Note that this is the exact same thing GW Bush did in _his_ realignment of the NSC (he did not, however, add anybody like Bannon to the PC).
It helps to read the actual document in question, instead of news and blog article ledes. To read this one, see https://www.whitehouse.gov/the-press-office/2017/01/28/presidential-memorandum-organization-national-security-council-and
The petition is sort of a joke, but it is also an indignant reaction to his advocated overthrow of a part of the Constitution. As such, he should be treated like any other terrorist trying to overthrow the government.
Now, the real question is, to where do we deport all our Congresscritters who have violated their oath of office to obey and defend the Constitution? And which country would want to take them?
:-)
And all the pro-gun people I know who signed the petition did so to shine light on the stupidity of the DC law in the first place.
We all agree David Gregory should NOT be prosecuted, and the law should be struck down as a violation of the Secondment Amendment just like every other DC anti-gun law, but we also think he and his management need to be publicly raked over the coals for violating one of the gun-control laws they advocate in the name of more gun control. Signing the petition is our way of doing that.
One is the Fair Use problem of a mom posting a YouTube video of her baby dancing to some random backgroung music; auto-matching would find it as a violation, since nobody (except the RIAA) expects mom to check a database and pay a license fee - she may not even know what the background song was.
The other is Orphaned Works. You can find the music, or recordings of it, but if nobody claims it, it's not in the monster database - even if somebody added it, with a "blank" owner name, to whom would royalties be paid and who would set the royalty/license amount?
I don't know...I'm pretty sure some of them are actually evil. Look at Lamar Smith - he can't really be blind to all the opposition, so the alternative is that he's evil. He _just doesn't care_ what his constituents think. If they vote him out of office, he's pretty confidant his MPAA/RIAA/whoever paymasters will reward him with a lucrative job somewhere in their organizations - probably in a lobbying arm. And then he won't have to put up with all the sniping from us any more. Win-win for him.
Call it the "non-Apple Store" - there's absolutely no chance of consumer confusion, the "Apple" name is used fairly to accurately describe what it is, and it should really piss off the wankers at Apple.
Yeah, they get summers off _without pay_. And, on 9 months of pay for the year, they're expected to pay for summer school to gain education credits and to keep current in their chosen subjects.
Many of them are paid too little to support their families and still pay for summer school, so they end up not getting their skills upgraded, which means they don't qualify for pay raises, and they have to take summer jobs to support their families for the three "vacation" months.
Too many people think they get a 3-month paid vacation, but it doesn't work like that.
I don't know where your Best Buy is, but in the St. Louis, MO area, most DVD's full price is $19.99, and Best Buy sells them for $15.99 or $16.99 Tue-Sat the week of release. They're cheaper at that sale price than anybody locally except Wal-Mart, and you usually can't find the new releases at Wal-Mart, anyway.
"But if you realize that you're now taking away the ability to serve all of your customers for nearly a month at the point when their demand is likely to be the highest... well, that doesn't seem very customer friendly at all."
Doesn't seem like much of a business model, either. ...taking away the ability to collect revenue from your customers for nearly a month at the point when their demand is likely to be the highest...
> Her death resulted from a tragic set of circumstances, but CNN has to blame something, apparently, to keep people's interest, so why not the text messages?
There was no tragic set of circumstances. She was stupid enough to walk on the railroad tracks, even though she was deaf and obviously couldn't hear a train coming. The only thing to blame was _her_ - and it's not particularly tragic (except to her family), just "evolution in action". Train 1, Idiot 0.

We have seen this before
Levitsky says Musk is something we havan't seen before, something new. He's not - his name was Rasputin.
Are you sure they're trying to take it down?

Somebody hasn't read the Presidential Memorandum
The outrage is somewhat misplaced, as people seem to be mixing and matching different parts of the Pres. Memo.

Why use a contractor?
Can't they just ask the NSA for a data dump?

Two problems
Right off the top of my head, I see two problems.
One is the Fair Use problem of a mom posting a YouTube video of her baby dancing to some random backgroung music; auto-matching would find it as a violation, since nobody (except the RIAA) expects mom to check a database and pay a license fee - she may not even know what the background song was.

Use their name in a way that can't infringe

Not much of a business model

Maybe they could be required to have a pedestrian carrying a lantern precede them.
Historical precedent, after all.
