The pie is shrinking because the industry giants have less artists under contract and own the rights to a smaller percentage of what feeds the publics appetite.
Many of the vehicles used to attract the listener are gone thanks in great part to the demands of the industry giants. More and more of the surviving, as well as new, entertainment channels look to serve a different master.
Who killed radio? Who tried and tried to impose unsustainable restrictions on the end users? Who did all that work?
How many times do we have to pay for your sins?

I listened to the entire tape and it sounds like Mr Fiorino found the confrontation he went looking for.
Not trying to say that people shouldn't avail themselves of their rights but it isn't real hard to put myself in the shoes of the Police Officer whose job is to insure public safety.

Can anybody name another example where the entire premise for a business model is a law sold to the people as good for the public/domain?
Only not in our lifetime. Or our children and parents lifetime.

Why don't WE sue somebody about that?

  • May 10, 2011 @ 10:29am

I got a better idea BMI.
How about you pay me to take your artists music and play wherever I go?
Wait a minute, why I am even talking to you. You don't manage any of the artists I follow.
But if you are looking for somebody to sue try me. I stream every time I hear a good song. Just ask my neighbors.

I'm having trouble understanding this conversation.
Since when do entity's that finance the creation, marketing, distribution of content have standing?
Unless they own or have contractual control over the copyright.
The so called third party is often the lobbying arm or litigation arm of the RIAA both of which represent for all practical purposes Sony, BMG, Universal Music, EMI and Warner Music.
Now aren't these the same groups quoted frequently as saying they are unable to invest or find investors to support new music and artists?
Continue on through the circular reasoning and you arrive at the pirates must be stopped, something must be done, everyone is to blame but those who have been running things all along theory.
And there is the fork in the road.
Seek to control the technology. That's been tried and failed. Next up is users.

It's like the music labels think that it's there right to have tentacles in anything and everything, forever, that has to do in any way shape or form with product they have already sold.
How many bites at the apple are enough? When is it over?
    Good grief! Interference maximus!

  • Apr 27, 2011 @ 01:22pm

The TSA is good example of what can happen when Big Brother is allowed to make and deploy policy without the burden of unofficial opinion.

The world they invision is one where the masses fall into line. Where the middle class does what they are told.
    Don't ask questions.
    Don't ask why.
Just pay up and up and up.
    Understand?

Those in power would prefer people keep talking about everything but what's really going on. Take for example legal and illegal immigrants. Blame them. Ya thats perfect!.
Or could it be state and federal workers? Sure that works!
How about speeders and stop sign runners? No wait a minute I've got it! It's those damn, you pick, Republicans/Tea Party/Democrats/Chinese/Muslims/people not enslaved by college loans.
Or is it pirates? Ya, for sure those file sharing black beards are blame worthy.
For that matter so is Mike Masnick and BestNetTech. Any and all of those free thinkers. Those writers. Those damn instigators.
Really it can anybody just as long as they don't have political power.
    See statistics for specifics.
Just don't blame us Ivy League trained, politically enabled blue bloods that spend all day every day plotting to get..
    A) re-elected
    B) what we are entitled too.
Listen we know what's best for you. You little people. You idealists.
Until you do we'll make sure there are plenty of distractions to keep you busy and important. Meaningless trivial things.
    Get used to it.

Hey Paul would you mind if I run off a few t shirts with this quote?
    'Because fuck you, that's why'.

  • Apr 05, 2011 @ 01:39pm

    @Labels
Keep this shite up and you are gonna lose this lifelong paying customer.
Enough is enough is enough already.
    Sincerely,
-countless albums and cds during the last twenty five years.
-almost 1500 downloads from THE store on my 3 macs.
    Choose.

PS; Is there any good news? Any new or innovative stuff for me/us?

  • Mar 11, 2011 @ 11:43pm

    Wait a minute.
I'm still trying to digest the individuals have no expectation of privacy in public places or when sending unencrypted emails mantra.
If the above mentioned right to be forgotten becomes a right will will we ever find Osama Bin Laden?

  • Mar 11, 2011 @ 11:18pm

Let's stop referring to members of the Spite Industry as somehow representing the Music Industry.
Or how about we ban music made before 2012. That would give everyone the rest of the year to focus on music and work on putting a new album together.

  • Mar 11, 2011 @ 11:09pm

Look around. Society is demonstrating an amazing capacity to not only tolerate but indulge abuse and exploitation. To accept lies. Subvert truth. Milk the middle class. Replace rights. Equate wealth with integrity. Accept a phony two party/blue blood only political system.
Consider that Bradley Manning has yet to be charged with a crime.
Try stewing on that one for seven months in a 6ft x 6ft concrete room without a book or other personal article with which to pass the time. Without the ability to even perform the simplest of exercises because permission has been denied by officials under false and misleading pretenses.
Maybe a better question is what's it gonna take to get people pissed off?
    We the people... ya right.

  • Mar 09, 2011 @ 10:26pm

    Popularity.
Think of it as a planet where the more popular the artist and artwork are the more advertisers flock to your site.
No mystery to unravel, no privacy to invade because popularity is transparent to all rather than filtered by iron grip institutions.
In such a world any person would be free to fling their creative work into the wind for all to like or not. For any to improve or not.
Artists fighting to be heard not protected or preserved.
    Popularity. Follow.

  • Mar 09, 2011 @ 09:30pm

Disturbing trend along the lines of suppressing anything remotely critical.
And it's not only reviews and commentary. Much of what I read online lacks an independent point of view.
Fear of retribution is ruining the atmosphere of freedom on the web.
Like a four way stop sign. Credible, credibility gap, incredible, incredulous.

  • Mar 07, 2011 @ 08:14pm

Let me get this straight. I buy the song but you own it?

  • Feb 24, 2011 @ 02:28am

Why object if artists/authors/whoever copyright their work?
Content is more affordable now than at any other time I can think of.
Are you saying that preserving the rights of an artist to profit in any way shape or form from creative work is unacceptable?
Personally speaking I don't feel that way at all.
Just want good quality at a reasonable price. More to the artist and less to the middleman. And lawyers. No offense.

  • Feb 23, 2011 @ 11:38pm

    @ Labels
Ever get the feeling that self serving solutions aren't the answer? Isn't working?

  • Feb 23, 2011 @ 10:58pm

    The art of exploitation.

  • Feb 06, 2011 @ 08:24am

This article appears to usher in a new standard of sensitivity.
Anyone able to conjure up anger over something as insignificant as this more than likely have too much time on their hands.
Save the finger pointing for those who deserve it.

The truth is that the only time you really need permission is when money transfers hands.
Those that know that are doing ok. Those that don't are going away.
