  I think OpenAI sucks for it offering support on how to end ones life & that shouldn't be possible. Another part of me looks at the parents & wonders how is it your child tried to kill himself several times & you missed every single one of the attempts? Again we expect tech to have more responsibility for someones child than the parents are willing to take. A lot of this is the black & white thinking that is so popular these days, when the real story is shades of grey & messy. Mental health is ignored. People having struggles are demonized & mistreated, finding help is nigh impossible. Insurance companies have been sued because they have ghost directories of providers who don't exist, don't take the insurance, or no longer practice. The "warning signs" have been replaced with SSRI's will make your kid a school shooter or transgender!! The optics of how people look at your family are more important than making sure your kids are actually happy with their lives & not just going through the motions to keep their parents happy & stop the fighting over the fact they don't like this sport their parents always wanted to win at. We have boys killing themselves because they were catfished into sending a nude to a scammer who then demands payments or they will reveal the photo to their family. They are so terrified that once they can no longer pay they kill themselves rather than tell anyone they got scammed & the picture will get released. You say your kids can tell you anything, but how many of you have told your kid that people online can and will lie to them? That a picture is forever. That no matter what it is you can tell your parents with no judgement & they will help you no matter what. OpenAI offering assistance is a huge problem, but not the only problem. Its just easier to put the blame all on one thing rather than accept what we are doing as a society is killing kids b/c we refuse to have the tough conversations or accept that 'not my kid' is a stupid cop out from parents who aren't living in reality. Yes your kid can smile & act the right way, but you should still check on them & make sure they aren't hiding things from you out of fear of disappointing you or not being accepted. But hey we've got SCOTUS willing to decide if a law blocking children from being tortured to change who they are for to get the parents approval is legal or not. Lots of things failed here at various levels, but the first thing that needs to change is to stop thinking that there is 1 solution that could have stopped all of this & that is holding OpenAI completely responsible. Society failed him. He felt a LLM was the only one who could understand him, & everyone acts like AI is so much more than it actually is that he bought into the illusion that it could care about him, that it could help him, rather than just output what it thought he wanted to hear.

  National Guard member issued the weapon they KNOW has a history of discharging without the trigger being pulled. One is going to panic, pull his weapon, its going to discharge & the rest will be all of the other agents opening fire like they heard an acorn hit the top of a car.   I was enjoying the WH talking head going on and on about how it was just a menu & nothing else, and it was shitty reporting like this is why they defunded NPR. Its that thing where its sad the media refuses to ask a tough question or push back on lies, but wouldn't publish (leak) the personal numbers of the advance staff they were in possession of now.   waves hi So what underlies all of this is the long running belief, that politicians can't seem to shake, that tech can just tech harder to solve all of societies problems. We just told them to tech harder & we declared mission accomplished! Now we can focus on important things like passing laws that use your skin color to decide how much of a vote you have in trumps 'merica. CSAM is horrific but what is more horrific is the willful ignorance about it. They believe some people are to good to look at it, my long running thread of busted conservative pedos / pulpit pedos blows that out of the water. A politician recently managed to get a law changed so that a family member of his wouldn't be charged with molesting a child. No thought about how horrible that change will end up being as now 13 yr olds can be 'asking for it'. In that state are graphic images of 13 yr olds now legal to possess? AI can't manage to not tell an addict to not do a little meth as a treat for trying to stay sober, but somehow it is capable of identifying new CSAM AI or not now? The people who have to look at these things are not paid enough & definitely not given enough mental health care to deal with it, but politicians don't care about that. They care about getting a 6 second soundbite for Faux or Newsmax where they can claim they solved the problem... again. Because the public have really horrible memories & they've declared they solved this so many time with so many similar we passed a law its up to someone else to make it happen that have failed. Eventually it would be nice if we all lived in 1 reality, where we don't have AI's on the verge of going HAL 9000 who can instantly know everything about an image in a nanosecond and decide if its CSAM that is real or generated & flag it. Y'all live in a nation where people can't handle seeing the tit of a statue or a marble penis without 17 trigger warnings... and somehow we can leap to perfect AI CSAM backed by humans who will have to look at the absolute dregs of human suffering & cruelty for a paycheck that ignores the dangers. This battle has been going on for a VERY long time (trust the immortal on this one), there isn't a solution beyond removing humans from the planet, then there would never be CSAM made ever again. This law just makes everything shittier, will make sure there are penalties for not being able to do the impossible, and still kids are going to be molested, filmed, pimped out while politicians are patting themselves on the back.

  I enjoy the latest round of bullshit from the Nazi paper of record, they claim that his score was at the low end for regular people and he ticked black and magically he was in. Funny the math, which I know I do not have a good grasp of, doesn't work out. The percentage they used is artificially lowered.   Some talking head was interviewed by the BBC... He laid some of the blame on watch or warning being confusing to people. It took me 45 minutes to find my eyes I rolled them so hard. He also said that if you have a kids camp you should have multiple devices to warn you. There isn't an app to alert you to notices posted on FB or X, but you know a really fucking loud siren gives LOTS of notice something bad is coming & perhaps you should check the news. Rafael Edward Cruz going on and on how we shouldn't politicize the tragedy... I guess he was flying back from Greece and missed the press conferences that were 90% talking about how awesome the GQP leadership and the god emperor were while parents hoping against hope & praying as hard as they could were left waiting for any fragment of information. Press Liar Barbie standing at the podium trying to defend the NWS having done a good job, while members of congress/ICE leadership are screaming they screwed up it can;t be the fault of the emergency managers who were breifed hours before the bad part hit.

  Devoting a large portion of a press conference to patting themselves on the back & praising the god emperor while parents are waiting for any fragment of information. Governor telling parents perhaps they didn't pray hard enough to save their kids. Speaker of the House of Rep. all we can do is pray. ICE Barbie blaming old systems. Member of Congress blaming bureaucrats, trying to shore up it was the fault of anyone but the people alleged in charge & who are supposed to care about citizens.
