Buy unfiltered apple juice. Treetop and several other brands sell it, and it has some of the fiber at least of eating a real apple.

Well, can't find anything at the wikipedia other than government funding and long term endowments.

Re: Not the average kind of milk.

Don't think so. My kid is very thin and in much better shape than most of his peers, and I am still thin at 49 years old even though we both drink a pretty significant amount of whole milk every day.

There are certainly some negatives to drinking milk, but crap corn syrup based soda has more, and basically no upside.

This research is interesting to me, as I always drank milk for reasons of thirst when I was a kid and teenager, and everyone thought I was weird. I didn't start drinking water in any significant amounts until I was in my late 20s.

On the other hand, I'd be very interested in who funded the research, and if there are any dairy industry connections.

  • Judge: Using The Copyright System To Force People To Pay Up Is Unconstitutional

    DinDaddy ( profile ), 09 Sep, 2011 @ 11:16am

    Same everywhere

"the copyright laws are being used as part of a massive collection scheme and not to promote useful arts."

Isn't that pretty much what studios and labels are doing as well? Trying to make so all use of their content results in some amount fo collection forever, so they don't ahve to make anything new that costs money?

Is the TSA agent denying that any of the described actions occurred, or just refuting the characterization?

If the latter, your stance is completely without merit.

  • HP Tablet Fire Sale Lets Us Put A Price On The Value Of A Strong Development Community

Re: Re: I'm not sure you understand...

Nobody who bought Apple cares about other brands?

Where I work. we have a strong mix of engineering types, business types and creative types (about 2500 people). As you would expect, virtually all the creative people are have macs and prefer Apple's stuff. But historically, most of the engineering groups had palms and were Windows guys, and the management had BBs and Windows.

A really high percentage of the latter two, though, have bought iphones and ipads. Probably about 1/3 of the iphone buyers then later switched to android phones. But most of them like their iphones fine, and no one with an ipad I've met is even contemplating switching to another tablet.

    Anecdotes are fun.

    Price premium?

Why does everyone here think Apple is charging a premium for the ipad?

They have used their cash reserves to lock in huge amounts of components at very favorable pricing, getting the BOM cost way down. Probably the only competitor who could match that is Samsung, since they make a lot of the components.

The evidence for this is front and center for everyone to see. Every major tablet with similar specs from anyone else who is a notable manufacturer, not a lowest-cost-possible chinese company, is priced the same or even higher (HTC Jetstream).

They are pricing them that way for one reason. They have to for there to be ANY profitability. That they are evidently not willing to lose money in the short run to gain soe market share should tell you how much they would be losing.

Very questionable. If it is a police visit, only the police should have been present, and only the police should have entered the residence and spoken to the occupants.

  • All Of Justin Bieber's Music Removed From YouTube Via 'Prank' DMCA Claims

    Not likely

"In the process, perhaps they could establish greater precedence for the ability to punish those who file bogus DMCA takedowns."

Which is why there is no chance they will use that approach. Instead, they will lean on a DA to prosecute him under some other broadly worded computer hacking or other inapplicable law.

  • Don't Mess With Texas… Or, Well, Don't Use That Slogan As A Book Title Or Texas Will Sue

    DinDaddy ( profile ), 29 Aug, 2011 @ 03:27pm

    It IS related to littering

They are plainly concerned that Texas residents will purchase the book because of the title, be disgusted with the sex contained therein, and fling the book out their car windows, causing extra litter.

Can't believe you missed that connection.

  • WSJ Latest To Note Ridiculous State Of The Patent System

    DinDaddy ( profile ), 24 Aug, 2011 @ 07:39pm

    Consistency

While I agree with the gist of the post and the WSJ's take, there is this:

"This is $12.5 billion that one of America's most creative companies will not use to innovate, fund research or hire anyone beside patent lawyers. "

This is the same argument seen in a lot of content industry propaganda about "lost money'. Google now won't use this money for R&D or innovation, but the remaining part of Motorola that receive it might use some of it for those things, the money didn't just disappear.

  • Yet Another Musician Offers Tiers… Including A Backyard Concert

    DinDaddy ( profile ), 12 Feb, 2009 @ 06:38pm

    Too expensive?

Re: $16 being too much for a CD. In general I agree. BUT, for an artist I like, where I know they are getting the whole $16, I'd pay it pretty gladly.

I think the pricing thing is kind of variable and sort of requires a more personal communication between the artist and his fans. A really big name who can't possibly do much 1 on 1 or 1 on small group interaction, sort of has "economy of scale" on their side and can charge a lot less and still make a good profit, or even use the "pay what you want" paradigm.

But if there is a relatively unknown artist with just hundreds or a few thousand fans, and they can communicate more directly with them and sincerely convince them that the price is necessary for him to keep performing and producing new music, I think a lot of people would find it a reasonable price for their very favorite artists.
