  This is exactly why there are so many patents (and so many bad ones). Having patents on your technology is a great defense when someone tries to sue you for 'infringing'. Every company that I have worked for that has patented something did it to add value to company AND as a defensive move.

  The founder of Immunet claims "Fewer than 50 percent of infections are detected and stopped by the AV products that are out there."
  
  The article also says that "Immunet Protect can run alongside current AV products. In fact, he says, it's designed to harness the data from security products that are already in place".
  
  So this tool leverages existing anti-virus clients and sends their detections to the "cloud", then thru som evetting process, and back out to the "crowd". The idea is that infection signatures get to the folks that need them faster than they would currently. Seems like it could work but I suspect they still won't cover the claimed 50% of infections that do not get caught.

  The only reason plastic discs are still important is because they offer the high quality recordings that are genreally available. Most downloads are much lower quality. Plastic discs themselves are not important.

  Over-priced ebooks are one thing how about the price of the ebook reader? I can imagine subsidized ebook readers much like cell phones are now. A cheap or free reader seems like a good way to charge more for the books.

  This is 'neat' but who wants to buy plastic discs?
  
  In this article and the one the other day about Pay What You Want both centered around selling plastic discs. This site has articles all the time that talk about how people do not want to buy plastic discs. So we have a neat feature that may be a reason to buy and a plastic disc that is not a reason to buy. How about affordable and downloadable tracks in the same quality that is available on the plastic disc? How about the neat plastic disc case that plays music but with a key to download the track and without the plastic disc?

  Sounds like this will be as successful as cable cards that let you own your own cable box. Good luck getting what you are paying for from any cable company at any time, they have local monopolies. If the cable company has to do anything, like add some kind of authentication system, then you will see that in your bill. All this program does is lock up content behind a pay wall as a way to prop up the existing way of doing things. Nothing good can come from this.

  Recycling is a good point. When you want to go with video and sound in a magazine format (i.e. disposable) it is more efficient for everyone involved to use something like an eBook reader (maybe something better and more magazine like than it currently available). I'd prefer to see innovation that uses less resources and provides a better user experience.
