Governor Perry hasn't shown much ability to apply logic to his positions, so there's not really any reason to expect him to now. I think the voters are going to turn on him and vote in Hutchinson.
How can we pit Monster Cable against Monster Energy Drink in some sort of trade war? I'd love to see those two eat each other.
You know, it just mystifies me that these recording industry people read BestNetTech but don't understand a single word of it.
Their business model is dead. What's so hard about adapting to new technology with a business model update? It's just plain common sense, and they've had TEN YEARS.
I continue my boycott of RIAA labels. Wake up, recording industry execs. You're all colossal failures.
Either you believe sarcasm is automatically funny (it's not) or you are serious and a complete idiot.
If Mike's wrong, please tell us exactly what he said that is wrong.
I'm not surprised you didn't leave your name on your post. Coward.
Dude... EPIC WIN, +1 quatrillion or so.
This is so great... Allen is clearly out of her league on this subject and is only parroting what her industry colleagues tell her too (or write for her?). She just got owned so hard that she should just shut her blog down with an admission of guilt and shame, and never make another post critical of someone else. EVER.
I love what you guys do here. I read the site just about every day. This is one of the priceless moments which bring me back over and over. Keep up the great work!
@ Call me Al,
I would love to see some backlash like that too, but unfortunately in this scenario the backlash would punish consumers just as much as it would the record labels and other lawsuit-happy asshats. Blacklisting certain publishers would make it that much more difficult for consumers to find the lyrics they want, which pretty much defeats the purpose of our efforts to have free access to this kind of information.
Besides, even if there was a blacklist, someone else would fill the void with another site. It's the nature of the internet.
Ciao,
Ben
I live in TX and have never heard this before, but am now a little worried that I may be at risk... I've certainly burnt discs for personal use in the past and taken them with me in the car without ever adding a label.
Silly me, WHAT was I thinking???
I think Video Professor is a giant scumbag who preys on people who don't know much about computers. His easygoing father-figure image attempts to make the ignorant feel comfortable buying his videos... and then he promptly rips them off by sending a bunch of overpriced lessons that the buyer didn't really want.
This whole story is just sad. The "new" owners of infomercialscams.com really screwed themselves, and everyone who might have learned that the Video Professor is a ripoff by reading the site.
Someone will have to replace infomercialscams.com. I'm thinking up domain names... suggestions anyone?
What democracy? Or Democratic Republic, or whatever you'd like to call it.
The fact is, the powers that be have hijacked our right to vote with these machines. They should be banned immediately, or required to open up their code.
Open source is the answer if we want to have e-voting. Putting the power back in the hands of the people won't be so easy with all the behind-the-scenes bullshit that goes on with our government and these companies, who are (shocker) all huge Republican donors.
These companies should all be brought up on charges of defrauding the voters in this country. It's criminal, pure and simple.
As a former resident of WV, I'm not surprised to see this. It has been and continues to be one of the most corrupt states in the union. Despite a history of strong democratic support, it's not the most progressive place in the US, so the backward attitude about how public information can be used doesn't surprise me at all.
Cue the banjo exit music...
I work from home in B2B software sales and use Lotus Notes every day, without a VPN connection to my corporate office and I have never experienced any issues with my Notes client communicating with our servers or databases... I am actively seeking a new ISP (unfortunately my choices are limited, thanks Congress) because of Comcast's shady practices, but I think some of the rumors flying around are possibly unfounded. The guy linked to in the story who traced his Notes problem to Comcast appears to have a legitimate point, but I haven't had the same experience.
Comcast still sucks though.
I wonder...
I wonder if Texas would have booted IBM if they hadn't been on track to break federal law.
I'm thrilled to see TX protect voter rights, but I don't trust the state to protect voter's rights on principle alone.
