If/when I ever need to call Spectrum about my account, they naturally try their best to upsell me since I'm an Internet-only customer. They love the term "plan guarantee" as if locking me into a plan rate means anything at all when a third of the bill is below the line. Despite no interest in adding services, I'll ask if their 'plan guarantee' prevents the bill from skyrocketing at the company's will every time they jack up their self-applied fees as they've done numerous times in the last couple years alone. "Does your plan guarantee come with a bill guarantee?" Of course they have no answer to that because it doesn't so 'plan guarantee' means absolutely zero since they still have the freedom to increase your bill whenever they want.
The thing that bugs me the most of the whole "we're moving to Facebook" thing is I've yet to see a single site link to the actual post in the article. You read an article, hit he bottom and it says join us on Facebook and just links to their page. How do you find that post? Hunt it down! Unless you're reading the article shortly after posting it, good luck! If they're too lazy to manage comments, at least link directly to the damn social post where people can comment.
Even just considering the legal aspect, copying is not theft. It would be classified as infringement if you don't have the right to copy it which is a totally separate crime than theft. One's civil, one's criminal. So the design is accurate, copying. is. not. theft. You may consider this a technicality but if you ever commit a civil crime and get caught, I have a feeling you'd care to make that distinction.
Let's use our own bodycams, or equivelant. I have my phone set so if I double tap the power button it starts recording a video. Even if I kept it in my pocket it's nice having an instant audio recorder at arm's length. Luckily I'm in a one-party-consent state.
The same could be said about Hollywood. Their next step is to try to convince ISPs to willingly start hacking away at their own customers to try to push them into supporting Hollywood's business.
I have Time Warner Cable for internet who at the moment doesn't have a cap and probably won't for a while to save face with the Charter merger (who themselves said they wouldn't enforce one for 3 years if it goes through). But when they eventually do, if they have an unlimited tier, I'll pay it, but you can damn well be sure I'll be getting my bandwidth's worth out of it. I'm pretty conservative with 'unlimited' now just because I don't care to abuse it for the hell of it but if I'm being charged extra fees to remain unlimited, I'm taking 100% full advantage of it. Any time my connection isn't being used it'd be wasted so look forward to endless downloading and uploading.
I currently have 'unlimited' data with Time Warner am I pretty reasonable with it. I use a good amount compared to others I know but I still don't go insanely overboard. If TWC were to enact a cap and require paying more to go back to unlimited, I can promise you I'd no longer hold back by any means. You want me to pay extra to get rid of a cap? My usage is skyrocketing.
You could actually see the Church of FSM as the reaction. It was created in protest of people pushing their religion into the public school system saying if you teach 'intelligent design' then you need to teach about FSM as well.
Part of the point of the colander in The Church of FSM is to point out the absurdity of being able to get around rules due to religious objection. There are many rules everyone else has to live by whether in a job or filing gov't forms that some get to just opt out of and claim their religion forbids it so it doesn't apply to them. Unless a role is assigned to determine what is genuine belief and what isn't, then to allow any exceptions to the rules is to allow (essentially) them all. Often, the religious seeking exemption become so unhappy at others utilizing the exemption that they try to get rid of it so no one can use it. This can be seen with statues on gov't property and religious promotion in public schools. The Satanic Temple steps in and tries to use the same benefits and the whole thing gets closed down. The colander thing helps expose these scenarios when religion is favored over non-religion by allowing rule exemption. Lastly, about not wearing it all the time, Church of FSM doesn't require it be warn all the time, just in official photos. The ID law also doesn't require the religious garment to be warn all the time for it to be allowed in the image.
"And these companies will continue to refuse to compete on price until Internet video reaches critical mass and customers begin to defect in greater numbers."
Or... they will impose lower and lower bandwidth caps while continuously increasing internet prices making it a downright pain to manage and stay under while streaming your TV watching online 'til people start giving up and getting TV again to give themselves room to breathe browsing the web.
The thought I kept having the entire article finally was mentioned in the conclusion. If they're so upset about people skipping legs of flights to get to their destination, they should try this insane notion of making the flight directly to the destination cheaper than the one that stops there on the way to somewhere else. Problem solved.
It might be different for each recording. They are permitting their own recording and you are too by hearing the notification and continuing with the call. Your recording is only being permitted by you. This all might not matter and hopefully it means if people are aware it's recorded in any way then anyone participating can record their own but who knows? Just guessing a possibility.

It shuts them up on the phone.

How long is the statute of limitations? Not that he should have to, but could he wait it out 'til he can't be charged?

TWC
