Its about not having to innovate

It is not about furthering innovation. Patent suers don't care about innovation they care about getting money without having to do any work. And it is working out for them too to the detriment of all those who don't mind doing work or providing a service for a reasonable fee.

    Use it wherever!

I want to buy some of this great new DRM free music from iTunes, but I don't use windows. Is there a reliable way that anyone knows to shop iTunes via Linux?

    Re: Give it Up

It is not the responsibility of the schools to teach this exclusively. Ok, maybe a class or two on this topic with a practical application letting the kids search MySpace and see what kinds of information they can get off of each others pages. Fine. But the real responsibility is on the parents. That is where the blame is to be placed and where the education starts and finishes. If the parents are using the computers as babysitters (to keep their kids quiet and out of there hair) the way some use the television then it is the parents fault for not being interested in their kids lives,. Not interested in your kids life? Then you will be responsible for their death...or worse.

    Tree of liberty etc etc

I would like to see the bottom fall out of the music industry. I do enjoy music quite a bit. I am a musician myself. I feel that the RIAA is far out of control and needs to be put in its place. The only way to do that is with a concentrated effort to bankrupt it. If you have a problem with the way you are being treated by the RIAA then do something about it. What the company is doing is not necessarily illegal, but like any business it is attempting to protect its profit margins. It is doing so by forcing you to do business on ITS terms, not yours. The fact of the matter is that while the customer may not always be right, they are still the customer and have the right to spend their money any way they see fit. I think it is time for the people to demand better treatment from this company. Make the company do business on their terms or not at all. What are you willing to do about it? If the answer is nothing then you deserve what you get.

    Not thier job

I have three children, and I will be damned if I will leave the role of protecting my children in the hands of any government. There is and always will be those who will use whatever media or avenue they can find to break the law or put others in harms way whether it is with pornography, fraud, or firearms. The bottom line is that it is the Duty and Responsibility of the PARENT(S) to protect their children and this seems like a law that is put in place to try to allow parents to ignore their children's online behavior and blame someone else for their failures.

Another thing..It also looks like a legislation that was was put in to try to do "something" when there was no real clear plan on what needed to be done. But something needed done, or so I can guess the thought process went. In other words, it may be ineffective, but at least we did something.

    Not Surprising

This is a windows exploit. Not a computer exploit. Did Acer/ Sony do a bad thing? Yes, however, this can be avoided by running an inherently more secure OS than the one that comes preinstalled.

    Novel, albeit low-tech idea

I have a great idea, let's teach them how to , say, I don't know, um...farm so that they can produse food to feed them selves. Don't give them laptops so they can surf porn, give them U-haul trucks so they can move out of the desert where they can hope to grow food. Maybe send hand tools so they can build themselves an existance start providing for themselves.

Re: You missed the best part...

You are exactly right. They have alienated the very people that they need to even have a chance at being sucessful at this. This is a classic example, once again, of Microsoft biting the hand that feeds them. But this shouldn't be a big surprise to anyone by now.

    Parental Challenge

If you can come up wirth a new device that can display an image, a smart teen will figure out how to get porn on it, I guaran-effin-tee it. Challenge.....Go check your son's video Ipod or related piece of technology, Palma-sutra anyone? Palm pilots, video Ipods and the like...I guarantee that you will be suprised at what you will find. Is it the technology's fault? NO, You bought it for them, and you didn't and cannot raise them any better. It is your fault for failing as parents..Accept it for what it is, no more, but no less either. Look, they are just doing what comes natural...

    Re: Destructive Potential

Congrats on avoiding 'fivebucks' this morning. it is a start. Keep it up...

Um why are students who go to gas stations 'bad apples' and 'bimbettes'? Was this during school or before school starts? I know that growing up, I would occasionally go the the service station next to my school for a soft drink or something of the like. But then again I didn't wear a schoolgirl uniform till after the second divorce..
(I was kidding on parts of that, I will leave it to you to decide which parts. Cheers)

doesn't matter to the regular consumer

Once again, it doesn't matter to the regular Joe Consumer...They don't know enough nor do they care that they are being spied on. They also don't know enough about their options to switch to an os that is isn't spying on them or regulating how it is used. So, in all, Microsoft will still have the marke share in desktop OS and nothing will change that.

    Respect not needed

They don't even need to respect their viewpoints. Whatever happened to telling someone how it is. Like it or don't...get over it or die mad, but this is the way we choose to disclose this information therefore if you are going to do anything shady, then use a different company. The fact is, that Joe Callmaker doesn't realize that any information about him has been divulged because it wasn't him they were looking for to begin with. Therefore he shouldn't really care that much. Most people are too busy to spend their time catching up on news like this. We keep up with it because it IS our interest, but 90 % of the population just doesn't want to be bothered with things like that. They want to pick up their phone or open a browser and it should work, every time. That is what they care about. Not how or why, untill it doesn't work.

    Thanks...checkpoint met

Sounds like a bunch of conspiracy theory to me. It has been my experience that whatever the simplest explanation is, is most likely the accurate explanation. But it does make for some nice drama on the boards.

    Ban Big Macs

It has been proven through several studies and was brought to my attention by a state patrolman that there are actually relatively few crashes caused by inattentiveness due to cell use. Rather, the most common distraction-related crashes are caused by eating while driving. I have, however seen both simultaneously. Someone driving with their phone tucked between their ear and shoulder, driving with their knees and eating a burger. I say it is darwinism at it's finest. If only they didn't take out the family of four next to them at the same time.

    Re: Sounds reasonable ....

What will probably happen is it will be available first for Media Player X then someone will develop codecs for the *nixs so that the rest of the world can watch them. But that of course will take time.

    a la carte programming

I have a great idea. Let's provide all of our shows a la carte, stream them on demand over the net, and pay for the shows tht we want to watch. This will ensure that we don't get a lot of channels that we don't want. Instead of blasting 200+ channels to our sets and us choosing which ones we want to watch, that happens to be on at that particular time, let us choose what we want to watch and when. There would of course be some obvious ones that would come on a set times. These would include events like the Super Bowl or NASCAR races. But standard weekly programming would be made available on say sunday evening for that week and we could watch our favorite shows when the kids AREN"T hopped up on sugar that grandma gave them because she doesn't watch television and doesn't care what is on. Tivo was a great solution for time shifting, great, but there really is no need for toothpaste advertisements during this weeks episode of 24 or lost. Lets bundle the show titles together in handy pricing packages that lets viewers choose which titles goes into their package. Like any 10 shows for 10.99 or something like that.

Then for an additional 10.99 you can have acess to the archive of a certain number of previous seasons of the shows that you have selected for your package. If you want to watch a new show, you can for say .99 cents then you can go nto your package preferences and add it on later if you want to watch them all. They would be available for say a month when you are due for your next payment. See, we get our programming, and the content providers get their profit, and there need be no advertisers involved.

Then again in a perfect society, we wouldn't need to trace criminals because there wouldn't be any.

Re: Why buy a Hard Drive?

I really love the ideas that Google is implementing. I am all google all the time, but at the same time something to the tune of eggs and baskets come to mind. I am a little wary. But then again just because you are paranoid, doesn't mean that everyone's not out to get you. Two things can be true at the same time.
