Trump Administration Approves New COVID Vaccines… For Barely Anyone At All
from the collective-amnesia dept
I’m starting to think that American is suffering from some sort of collective amnesia. Look, whatever your opinions on how the government handled the COVID-19 pandemic, especially in its early days, I would hope we can all agree that it sucked. Think the government was far too restrictive, or lacked nuance in how it put forth restrictions, regarding lockdowns and the like? Hey, you know what, me too to some extent. On the other hand, you know, over a million Americans have died from the pandemic, so we need to be really careful with discussions about how to handle it.
I don’t think it will surprise anyone when I say I am not a fan of Donald Trump. That being said, if you were to ask me what his signature accomplishment was during his first term, I wouldn’t hesitate to say that it was Operation Warp Speed, which helped to bring us the COVID vaccines. But for his second term, Trump put RFK Jr. in charge of American health, which is why this signature accomplishment is being reduced to an approval for the fall COVID vaccines under the tightest restrictions yet.
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved updated COVID-19 shots for the fall season on Aug. 27, implementing the tightest restrictions on who can access the vaccines since they became available.
Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. announced the approval on social media platform X, saying emergency use authorizations for COVID-19 vaccines have been terminated and that the Moderna, Pfizer and Novavax immunizations are approved for “those at high risk.”
Under the updated approvals, only those over the age of 65 and people with existing health problems will be recommended the COVID-19 vaccine, according to federal guidelines.
Kennedy went on in a separate post to reiterate that he’d promised that vaccines would be available to everyone who still wanted them. But as is typical from Kennedy, the claim he’s keeping that promise is steeped in bullshit. With this new FDA approval with the included restrictions, there’s a lot we don’t know:
- Will insurance cover the vaccines outside of those approved for groups?
- Will doctors be willing to even prescribe them, a necessity now, if they fall outside of those groups?
- Will there be punishments as a result of not adhering strictly to the FDA approval guidelines?
Depending on the answers to those questions, there indeed might be a great many people who suddenly can’t get COVID shots even if they want them, either due to an unwillingness to prescribe them by doctors fearful of reprisal, or because they simple can’t afford them if insurance doesn’t cover the shots.
We will begin to lose whatever benefits we’ve gained against COVID through widespread vaccination. And, yes, it’s certainly true that vaccination rates have waned as the disease has evolved to be less serious and deadly for most people.
But there’s nothing to say that it can’t roar back with a vengeance.

Science denial simply leaves you with a lot of dead people. Pandemics and natural disasters won’t stop simply because you stop studying them, but your ability to mitigate them will.
Re:
I think MAGA views “brains” as the naughtiest bit of humans, and in need of maximal censorship.
Well, at least they’re protecting us from 5G…
Shit. We need a prescription for a COVID booster now?
COVID CRIMINALS
Under the updated approvals, only those over the age of 65 and people with existing health problems will be recommended the COVID-19 vaccine, according to federal guidelines.
SO……the elite is trying to get back on schedule for getting rid of useless eaters! and now the genocide jab is only available for the old or sick! all approved by the very covid criminals that want you dead!
Who's going to be left
You’re throwing out the farm workers and meat packers, throwing out the fire fighters, throwing out the yard maintenance people, throwing out the maids and janitors.
And anyone who’s black or brown has to go as well, of course.
Now you’re discarding the covid vaccine (and many of the other standard vaccines).
Who’s left?
Starving white people who are dying of covid in dirty houses with yards full of weeds.
But gosh, you really showed them libs, right?
I don’t live in the Peoples Republic of Trumpistan, so I don’t have to deal with all of this winning.
New MAHA policy for stopping the spread of disease: kill the host (no, I’m not kidding–I only wish I were).
Do keep in mind...
…that Operation Warp Speed would have been far less necessary if Trump V1.0 had actually listened to epidemiologists and shut down everything the moment we knew we had a highly contagious pathogen with serious consequence spreading through the population. It would have been far cheaper, far easier, far less disruptive, far less fatal, than what he did do — which was deny, deny, deny while the bodies stacked up.
Anyone who has studied epidemics/pandemics knows that there’s always a moment at the beginning — a critical moment — where a courageous decision can drastically mitigate the outcome. Trump, completely lacking in anything within a light-year of courage, miserably failed this test and millions died — or are in the process of dying — as a result.
Re: It was an easy win-win-win choice to make
Dead people don’t vote. Disproportionally affected old and frail people are less likely to be net contributors to social security systems and economy.
Survivors get confirmation bias. All you need for this to work is lie incessantly until the truth might as well be buried along with the victims in graves along the wayside, and to be devoid of compassion, decency, integrity, and basic humanity.
We are talking about core competencies of Trump here.
Re: This works in theory, as a practical matter…
A Total shutdown and I mean total would have stopped the viral spread.
The problem is, it’s as unworkable as the “targeted protection” they called for in the Great Barrington Declaration.
First off, people arn’t stocked up for the 2-3 week quarantine it would have needed to really break the chain..
Secondly, even if we did burn it out. unless other also nations do it at the same time, it would simply be reintroduced.
Re:
And not just Trump; Boris Johnson also failed to heed the warnings coming from other countries, which only helped extend the lifespan of the disaster in both the US and the UK. I would link you to the evidence of this, but the trolls don’t like anyone doing so.
I don’t know about that. Shutting everything down happened across the globe, and had huge economic and social impacts, so there was every reason to remove as much red tape as possible.
Re:
I’d phrase it differently: “Operation Warpspeed” would have been considerably more effective had it been accompanied with more comprehensive and risk-focused lockdowns while vaccines were not yet available, and with more serious vaccination mandates once they were.
Flashy names aside, a high priority vaccine development, testing, and employment project was definitely called for. But it did not vacate the need for actually making best use of its achievements.
Re: The Problem is
We didn’t have total shutdowns, and they were never all over the globe at once.
We had fairly large shutdowns, that staggered around the world as the virus spread the shutdowns that had a lot of leaks, and thus couldn’t break the chain of transmission, it only slowed it down.
Re: Re:
Exactly. Slowing the spread down was buying time for getting vaccines ready. It also meant that the virus got more time and opportunity (or in other words, it got longer transmission chains by reducing the fanout) to mutate to less lethal and more contagious forms: killing the host is not advantageous for a respiratory virus.
And for those below 65y, they just have to wait for RFK recommendations like “eat burgers and avoid chemtrails”?
Conditions for severe COVID-19
When I go to my pharmacy website to schedule a COVID-19 2025-2026 vaccination, it gives this list for risk conditions:
Any of those let me schedule a vaccination without a prescription. The BMI and physically-inactive (office worker) ones are probably the most broadly applicable. So, like so many of Trump’s “victories”, it sounds restrictive but really isn’t so much.
Re:
Great a reason to start smoking!
Like so many of Trump’s “victories”, it really isn’t much of a restriction. When I go to schedule a 2025-2026 COVID-19 shot at CVS, the list of conditions that qualify as “high risk” includes “BMI above 25”, “physically inactive”, and “current or former smoker”. Anyone working in an office should fit the “physically inactive” category, and the BMI one covers a lot more than it should. Plus there’s a generic “anything your doctor thinks would be high risk”, which could be as simple as “uses public transit regularly”.
Here’s an idea of them- have a LOTTERY to see who gets access to the precious jab. Proceeds can be put toward some more tax breaks for the wealthy.
Re:
Maybe next they’ll make some kind of TV spectacle of it, where the children of poor families fight to the death for access to a covid vaccination?
Re: Funny
I wanted to click Funny, until I realized it is 2025 and the orange baboon and his coterie of apes is in charge.
We need to get off RFK Jr.’s back. He has shown that there is not non-scientific reason for the Covid Vaccine should work. He has proven that time and time again. Let him focus on what isn’t scientific evidence that its causing Autism.
Most country’s the vaccines is free in America you now have to go to a doctor covid is especially dangerous for children or people with a low immune system
Covid will be here forever
It should be avaidable to everyone free this is even worse as most people only get health insurance from their employer
Look, RFK Junior is a total moron, a blantant scammer, and an all-around disaster. He should be thrown into an all-natural, unpasteurized wood chipper.
Even having a prescription requirement at all is fucking stupid and horrible and will kill people.
But there’s no need to make things up. It makes you vulnerable.
Most people running insurance companies are not total morons. One actual serious COVID cases pays for a crapton of vaccines. I’m guessing they’re gonna cover it.
The only reason they wouldn’t would be the free rider effect from the huge number of uninsured people. Which is caused by different stupid nightmare policies.
Doctors are typically not total morons either, and even the ones who are don’t tend to be that kind of moron. They routinely prescribe off-label for other things, and will definitely be doing it for this.
There never have been in the past. It would take a lot of changes to the established rules and ways of doing things. Maybe that’ll happen… or maybe the stupid and evil energy will get used up on some other stupid, evil thing. You’re borrowing trouble and potentially wasting the good guy’s time and attention.
It should be patient choice. That said, unless the patient is advised that the experimental vaccine, sold under a liability shield until 2029, is told that the vaccine is the 2nd experiment, and Covid-19 is the 1st experiment, I see denial of informed consent. That would be an experiment where this experiment serves as representative example, prototype and modius operandi.
If you click through on CVS pharmacy scheduling, one of the conditions listed is a BMI of over 25. That’s a solid majority of Americans. The main hang up would be making sure insurance agrees and pays for it, but I’m sure they would prefer I get the shot as well.
Next up from the CDC: 'The Gerson Treatment, and why it's awesome.'
On the other hand, you know, over a million Americans have died from the pandemic, so we need to be really careful with discussions about how to handle it.
Honestly I’m almost impressed that RFK Jr gave it the okay for anyone, I’d have expected that pro-plague lunatic to have deemed it ‘unsafe and untested’ for everyone and recommended a good old swim in sewage to keep people healthy instead…
At the rate he’s going sabotaging the medical field RFK Jr. alone is likely to get a million people killed through preventable diseases and potentially a new pandemic or two(dozen), add in the rest of the regime’s actions and a million dead(counting inside the US and out) is almost certainly going to look downright quaint in just a few short years.
Vaccine
Why would anyone trust a vaccine. How long was it tested for a week. People are dying from these vaccines..I know the plan is depopulation..I wouldn’t trust the fda. Aren’t they the one that approve the slop they pass as food ..do not comply is my advice. Covid is just another word for the flu. Nicotine will cure covid a vaccine won’t even prevent it
My prediction is that we will see another 2020 level pandemic start in 2027 after mail in and absentee ballots are done away with. No way to get out and vote if we’re all locked inside. Of course he’ll throw RFK under the bus but he’d throw his kids under a bus to be king.
