Ryan Walters Resigns As Oklahoma Superintendent

from the for-the-children dept

I recently wrote about the Oklahoma state legislature’s plan to build a memorial plaza and statue to honor Charlie Kirk, while mandating signage signifying him as a “civil rights leader.” That post was labeled as a “Part 1” and this post was intended to be “Part 2” for reasons we’ll get into. We’ll have to scrap the numbering convention, however, because it was going to be about state Superintendent Ryan Walter’s plan to mandate a chapter of Kirk’s Turning Point USA organization in every single public high school in the state… but then Walters resigned his post two days later.

Late Wednesday, Walters went onto Fox News to announce that he was resigning from his position to take a private sector job. The controversial leader of the Oklahoma State Department of Education said he plans to join the Teacher Freedom Alliance.

“I’m excited to announce I’ll be stepping down as Oklahoma State Superintendent and taking on the role as the CEO of the Teacher Freedom Alliance,” Walters said in an interview with Fox News.

Now, I would never sit here and call Walters a liar in these here pages, because I prefer to say instead that I’m certain Walters is completely full of shit. His “excitement” about not being Superintendent any longer comes directly on the heels of his implementing all kinds of batshit crazy educational policy in his state. All this policy, all these plans, all this combat he’s done with the “woke left” or whoever he thinks he’s fighting in Oklahoma… poof, gone! And replaced by excitement to leave his post?

Come now, Ry-guy. Nobody is buying that.

As to what the real impetus for this resignation is, it’s anyone’s guess. Maybe it was the christo-fascism, looking to place bibles in every public classroom. Maybe it was the lawsuits filed against the state for his attempts to teach public school children election conspiracy theories. Maybe it was the woke-tests he forced selectively upon transplant teachers from liberal states before they would be licensed to teach in Oklahoma.

Or maybe he just sucked out loud at his job and he knew the state government was coming for him anyway. Here is the state Attorney General commenting on Walters’ resignation.

“Ever since Gov. Stitt appointed Ryan Walters to serve as Secretary of Education, we have witnessed a stream of never-ending scandal and political drama. From the mishandling of pandemic relief funds that resulted in families buying Xboxes and refrigerators to the latest squabbling with board members over what was or wasn’t showing on TV, the Stitt-Walters era has been an embarrassment to our state.

“Even worse, test scores and reading proficiency are at historic lows.

“It’s time for a State Superintendent of Public Instruction who will actually focus on quality instruction in our public schools. Gov. Stitt used to say he would make us Top Ten, but after seven years we are ranked 50th in education. Our families, our students and our teachers deserve so much more.

Step 1 in making things better would be unwinding all the performative bullshit Ryan Walters has done, particularly over the last nine months.

So, so long, Ryan Walters. It was unfortunate to have known of you.

His own party pushed him because he was doing the stuff they wanted to do quietly, loudly and incompetently. They can forgive the trump fellatio, they can forgive the christofascism, but doing it embarrassingly badly will make it harder for them to sell it to voters, even in Oklahoma.

lets see.

Some one has to say something.

Making changes Means that Someone is going to Bitch. When more then a FEW call in and complain, There IS a problem.

There is a Major Problem in the USA. Few are complaining. Few know WHO to complain to. And Who are the Wrong ones Complaining.
As in the republicans Could group up on another group, and Complain about This/That, and get things THEIR WAY. rather then AT LEAST a balance from Both sides.
NOW Be the Superintendent trying to deal with WHAT HAS to be done to fix schools, repairs and books and all the crap stuff. And being involved Politically. THEN you OPEN your Mouth for everyone to hear. This is one of those Jobs you DONT WANT to hear about. And as he went PUBLIC with what he WANTED to do, Everyone Got a Chance to Hear and Complain. Rather then it JUST HAPPENING, and complaining After the fact.
AND now he THINKS he is heading to a New job?? Either the Repub’s are pulling him out or he is following a JOKE on him.

What would you expect from a Low education State, when it Applies to the Adults also..

Re: Re:

I’ve never seen a good explanation despite multiple people asking or commenting about ECA’s writing style. All the LLM detectors I’ve tried insist it’s 100% human generated text. My best guess is that it’s a person who doesn’t write English as their first language. Americans don’t typically call it “the USA.” Some other languages have alternative capitalization standards, such as German capitalizing nouns, but that doesn’t seem to be the pattern here since ECA will randomly capitalize adjectives. It’s likely not dictated through a speech-to-text app because it would have more proper spelling. I’m guessing an older person who wasn’t born in the US. Younger people seem more likely not to use capitalization rather than randomly capitalize, which takes more effort on a keyboard.

All that said, I don’t typically read their comments anymore because it’s too difficult to parse most of the time.

Re: Re: Re: The Moran known as ECA

ECA uses Camel Case to Emphasize some words. He also uses ALL CAPS to BIGLY EMPHASIZE the bigly important words. He has no clue on how to use markdown, even though it’s apparently quite easy to generate italics and bold text, which would the normal/standard way to emphasize the various embiginated words he feels compelled grace us with. He’s a maverick who’s sorely in need of an auto tune filter for his grossly off key strumming.

Why not?
The Printed word can not Express as Much without Formats that deal controversy or Attack(not attract) your Attention.
Ever notice thart you can Find your Posts While Scrolling Down a long page?
I can. And pretty quickly.
If everyone did it, it would be much harder.
And it helps as with Both eyes having Surgery, Nothing is perfect.

wHILE Reading text, it gets boring to me. Same patterns all the time. It puts me to sleep and Just irritates my eyes.
The English and other languages have No Expression to Show you changes in Expression. you have to Create a Dynamic to Show what you want to convey.
Ever hear of Voice/verbal hypnotism. Its not Just for Hypnotists. Its a Patterned speech. Evangelists Love to use it.
Ever read a EULA/TOS and wonder WHY its so long?? And WHY you must READ every F’ing line? Over 1/2 of it is Filler TO BOR YOU TO DEATH and (good chance) make you sleep and miss a few lines.
At least when you see all the strange Punctuation. You know Who wrote it and can Skip it if you wish. Once You comment, I notice you read it.

Re: Re: Re:2

Shot in the dark: You don’t have an internal dialogue/“voice in your head” when you read text, do you? Like, if you read a story, you don’t have different voices for the narrator/specific characters that you “play” in your head when you read the text. Am I in the ballpark there?

For the record, I’m not saying it’s a bad thing if you don’t have that. But it would certainly explain why reading plain text would be “boring” for you. That said: The random capitalization and such doesn’t make your text “exciting” for other people, so much as it makes what you have to say harder for everyone else to parse. Plain text doesn’t really have dynamic expression because outside of bolding and italicizing text, it’s nigh impossible to use plain text to indicate changes in tone and such. Sure, you can use punctuation to sort of do that—exclamation marks are good for that! Commas help, too. But randomly capitalizing words (or their first letters) doesn’t really do for other people what it apparently does for you.

Again, not trying to judge here and call what you do “bad”. This style works for you for whatever reason and I get that. Alls I’m saying is that it’s difficult for everyone else to read your posts unless they take the extra time to parse what you’re saying beneath that style.

Speaking of failed education and critical thinking, here’s a thought for the next person to fill that role: If the trend is only going down for year after year that’s probably a good indicator that you should fire that person, not keep them around to see if they’ve got some sort of master plan to turn everything around in the end.
