StackSocial - Con?
I read your writeup about the Angle Pro Knife Sharpener with Angle Gauge. I decided to buy it. So I clicked and got sent to StackSocial. I added it to the cart and headed to checkout. I chose to open an account at the same time. After filling out all the forms I clicked on Purchase. That’s when the problems started. Error code 900 – contact Support.
The only way to contact them is via a form – one which even has Error 900 as one of the drop-down selections. Just how often does it happen? I describe the problem and 5-10 minutes later I get an email saying that their payment processor has declined the card. They want me to take a photo of it and they will see what then can do.
Then I tried to pay via PayPal. This went fine till I hit the Purchase key. Another error (I didn’t catch what it said before it disappeared).
I checked with PayPay, they didn’t show the payment – good. I checked with Chase (who is the processor for Amazon cards) and they didn’t decline it.
All this REALLY set off my bullshit detector. The only reason I didn’t check them out was because you sent me there. Their Contact page has no phone number or address. After doing some googling, I found two other names they operate under. Google shows a review score for them as 3.3/5 stars (not good).
So I decided to remove my credit card but they won’t let me do that. Another red flag! I didn’t see a way to delete the entire account, so I replace all of the other info with bogus stuff (name, address, phone number, email address). If they try to run my card the name Donald Duck I won’t have any trouble filing against them through Chase.
Sorry, I really wanted to support you because I’m a long time reader, and I need a good knife sharpener, but I’ll never use StackSocial (or their other fronts) to purchase anything!
Regards,
John
Just what I need.
How can BestNetTech endorse such a scammy product?
